Luxury Hardware
Repair & Refinishing

We restore worn, scratched, oxidised, faded, or peeling hardware on luxury bags, belts, wallets, and accessories, including metal pieces where the original coating or gold plating has worn away.

Each piece is carefully polished with professional polishing equipment, then cleaned with specialist metal cleaners before refinishing or replating where suitable. This helps restore the shine, colour, and overall appearance while keeping the original hardware.

Questions You Might Have

Yes. I use professional 18K or 24K plating solutions containing real gold. I don’t use imitation gold-coloured coatings, as they look noticeably different from genuine gold plating.

A 24K finish has a deeper, richer yellow tone, while 18K is usually slightly lighter. Many luxury items use a 24K-style finish, but I will match the new plating as closely as possible to the hardware’s original colour.

It depends on how often the item is used and how it is handled. Just like the original finish, a new plating layer will gradually wear over time. However, with normal use, it is more durable than many people expect.

Yes, in most cases. I normally refinish and replate the complete visible surface rather than treating only the worn section. This creates a more even colour and avoids obvious differences between old and new areas.

Most scratches can be significantly reduced or removed through professional polishing. However, removing too much metal may distort the shape or create an uneven reflection. I aim for the best balance between reducing the damage and preserving the hardware’s original form.

Most luxury hardware is made from brass, while some Louis Vuitton pieces use different metal alloys. These materials can usually be gold plated. If the metal is unusual or unknown, I can test it first. If it cannot be plated successfully, I will let you know and will not charge for an unsuccessful result. If I can identify the issue beforehand, I will tell you before accepting the job.

It depends on the construction of the item. If the hardware can be removed safely, I prefer to take it off because this normally produces the best result. If removal is difficult or could damage the item, I can use compact polishing tools and brush-plating equipment to work on it in place.

I take extra care around logos, engravings and other important details. These areas are polished gently or avoided where necessary to preserve as much of the original detail as possible.

The timeframe depends on the condition and complexity of the hardware, as well as my current workload. I will provide an estimated completion time when I assess the item and prepare your quote.

You can use it normally and no special protection is required. However, plating will wear faster on items exposed to constant friction or impact. Rings are a good example, as they regularly rub against surfaces and may lose their finish over time. This is why gold-plated rings are less common, and I will always explain the expected durability before accepting this type of work.
